The second half of August is the perfect time for walks in the forests, where you can now collect a whole bunch of tasty mushrooms. One of the most interesting species that you can now find during a stroll is the royal butterborn.
The season is currently going on, but it is rare and strictly protected in Poland, so don’t even think about picking it and put it in the basket. It is threatened by a high fine, exceeding many payments and the price of luxurious All Inclusive holidays in Turkey or Tunisia.

Royal butterborn, crimson, yolk or simply royal boletus is a very rare dining mushroom. So you can watch it, but you must not destroy or collect, for which there is a high financial penalty.
You will recognize it after a characteristic hat in a purple-cherry color pleasant mushroom smell. The tubes do not change after damage – In young mushrooms they are pale yellow, later lemon, and older copies almost olive.
The core of royal boletus is 5 to 12 cm long and about 2-4 cm thick, it is barrel-like, often has carmine spots. It usually occurs in visible deciduous forests, especially near oaks and beeches.
