After Corinthians beat Criciúma, 4-2, this Saturday, in Santa Catarina, coach Ramón Díaz showed excitement for the 7th consecutive victory and, when asked about the possibility of impeachment of President Augusto Melo, he said he could not comment on having little time at the club.

“Our objective was to take Corinthians out of the fight against relegation. We worked together with the president and the athletes”, stated the Argentine coach. “We shielded ourselves and worked. Politically, I can’t talk because I’ve been here for five months.”

The Corinthians Deliberative Council was due to meet last Thursday to vote on the impeachment of Augusto Melo, but the session was postponed until Monday, citing a lack of security. Organized fans of the club are against the removal of the president at this time, with the final phase of the Brazilian Championship and the possibility of qualifying for the Libertadores.

“We never stopped working. We were all together to achieve Corinthians’ objective and be able to celebrate”, said Ramón Díaz, who also commented on the good form of Yuri Alberto, who took the lead in the Brazilian Championship’s top scorers list, with 13 goals.

“The group is putting Yuri in a position to score these goals. Romero gave him two passes. He’s in a great moment, we can’t mess up like we did in the first half. Yuri himself missed a goal in the first half,” he said. “He’s a very important player. Nothing has been resolved about next year. When you have a goalscorer you get great results.”

With 50 points, Corinthians competes with Bahia (50) and Cruzeiro (48) for the two remaining places for the Copa Libertadores. Coach Ramón Díaz’s team returns to the field on Tuesday and faces Bahia, at the Neo Química Arena, and concludes participation in the national competition on Sunday, in Porto Alegre, against Grêmio.
