Residents of Buenos Aires Province, the most populous and influential in the country, go to the polls on Sunday in a legislative election whose result is seen as a thermometer for national October term elections.
La Libertad Avanza, the party of the right-wing radical president Javier Milei, faces the powerful center-left peronism of Governor Axel Kicillof in his historical stronghold, which accounts for 40% of all national voters.
Financial markets are suffering strong shocks while awaiting the outcome of the elections and allegations of corruption within the government, amid a worsening public image of the disruptive Milei and the growing social tensions on the effects of their hard plan of economic adjustment.

Legacy Card: Far beyond a service
Although this is a parliamentary election in the province led by Kicillof, the result will set the tone for the middle -term elections of October 26 across the country, in which the governor party seeks to reverse its current minority in both Congress houses.
The so -called “Bonaerians” elect 46 deputies and 23 provincial senators this Sunday.
“Although it is a provincial election, it is undoubtedly the true springery for the national elections of October, as they measure strength in the largest district of the country. We interpret that, from this result in Buenos Aires, there will be a great interaction to elect (national) deputies and senators next month,” said political analyst Guillermo Farina.

Different opinion polls show an equal or small advantage for Kicillof’s Peronist Party, former Minister of Economics of former President Cristina Fernández, currently under house arrest for state fraud.
