In the opinion of the PS leader, who asks for a government decrease, “there is nothing that can be used” of the proposal to change the labor legislation. “We are talking about a civilizational setback, an unusual inhumanity that undermines and that offends, particularly the younger ones, women and the most vulnerable workers,” says José Luís Carneiro.
The PS secretary-general appealed on Tuesday to a “great civic start” against the “civilizational setback” that represent the changes to labor legislation, proposing that the government “freeze these intentions” and admitting a hearing from the President of the Republic.
“A great civic start is necessary, because what we are talking about is really of a civilizational setback, an unusual inhumanity that undermines and that offends, particularly the younger women, women and the most vulnerable workers,” said José Luís Carneiro at the end of a meeting with UGT for changes to labor laws proposed by the government.
In the opinion of the leader of the PS, “there is nothing that can be enjoyed” of this proposal and, therefore, asked the government to “freeze these intentions”, not focusing on stories that were in the election program or elections.
“To advance with these intentions is to break the social peace that has been prevailing in Portuguese society,” he warned.
PS leader admits to talking to Marcelo
Carneiro admitted to asking for an audience to the President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, to “sensitize” on this issue.
“No humanist, no Christian Democrat, no social democrat, no woman or man of democratic socialism can agree with these work options,” he said.
The PS secretary-general also warned that the arrival “is seeking to function as a true Trojan horse to weaken the unions that have historically represented Portuguese workers.”
“And when it comes to the issue of breastfeeding and gestational mourning, we are talking about stories that the government has launched to fall into social concertation because we have already verified availability at a press conference to contribute to viable all other options,” he emphasized.
Young people will be released for “precariousness”
For José Luís Carneiro, “it is in all the other options” that not these two were more media “that is the heart of a frontal shock with fundamental civilizational values.”
“For me it is of great unworthiness what is being done to young Portuguese. We have stated that we want to fix young people in our country and this legislation will launch the precariousness and will launch young people again in the arms of green receipts,” he criticized.
In the opinion of the socialist leader, “the government must consider very well and the prime minister, if he is not aware of what is being proposed, must reflect very well on what is being proposed.”
“Because what is being proposed is a serious and harmful civilizational setback that deserves, from my point of view, a civic start and the mobilization of all citizens and all citizens of this country, in fact, a country of progress, which does not walk back into fundamental subjects,” he reiterated.
“There is no rational factor that justifies these options”
From the perspective of ram, “nothing justifies this option”. “Neither the economy, nor the levels of unemployment, nor the competitiveness of Portuguese companies. There is no rational factor that justifies these options. And I also found this misunderstanding here at UGT,” he said.
The government’s draft to revise labor legislation, which begins on Wednesday to be debated with social partners, provides for the review of “more than a hundred” of labor code articles.
The changes provided for in the proposal – designated “work XXI” and which the government presented on July 24 as a “profound” revision of labor legislation – aimed from the area of parenting (with changes in parental licenses, breastfeeding and gestational mourning) to flexible work, training in companies or experimental periods of labor contracts, further enhanced the sectors that are covered by minimum services in case of strike.
