The Kremlin spokesman, Dmitry Peskovcommenting on the threat by the president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, to impose tariffs on the BRICS countries if they create their own currency, said this Monday (2) that any attempt by the US to force countries to use the dollar will be a shot backfires.
Peskov said the dollar was losing its appeal as a reserve currency for many countries, and that the trend was gathering pace.
On Saturday, BRICS member countries pledge not to create a new currency or support another currency that replaces the US dollar, saying they would otherwise face 100% trade tariffs.
