From 2014 to 2018, the former minister’s family was represented in the Chamber by Lúcio Vieira Lima (MDB-BA), Geddel’s brother. Lúcio, however, failed to reelect deputy in 2018.

Despite the defeat, Geddel has influence on the Bahia government, led by Jerônimo Rodrigues (PT). The former minister was responsible for nominating the current deputy governor, Geraldo Junior (MDB).

The case of bags and geddel

In 2018, the PF found nine suitcases with money inside an apartment in the neighborhood of Graça, Salvador. The property, according to the investigators, would be used by Geddel to store the amount.

The former minister was denounced by the Attorney General’s Office (PGR) for money laundering and criminal association. Condemned, he became imprisoned for a period at the Papuda Complex in Brasilia.
