Brazilian government awaits the release for part of the delegation that goes to New York to participate in the 80th General Assembly of the United Nations, from September 22 to 26
It expressed concern about the possible restriction of US visas to Brazilians, a scenario that directly affects the entourage that will accompany the President (PT) to the UN General Assembly in New York next week. The president’s trip is scheduled for next Saturday, September 20th.
The Brazilian government has shown “a lot of irritation” with the posture of the United States. Many members of the presidential entourage still await the approval of their visas, generating uncertainty about who can actually accompany the president.
Traditionally, the president of Brazil is responsible for opening the UN General Assembly with his speech, followed by the president of the United States. Given the situation, Itamaraty, at a press conference yesterday, minimized the scenario, stating that the visas are in the process of approval, according to the US government.
However, the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that if the US government decreases the approval of these visas, the action will be considered a “legal violation of the UN agreement.” In this case, the Brazilian government may resort directly to the international organization. To avoid further “constraints” and a tense “climate” between the two countries, the Brazilian government has decided to reduce the number of people in the presidential entourage that will travel to New York.
