It approved it on Wednesday (17), in the first vote, a project that creates the “Week of Awareness of the Post-Abortion Syndrome”, proposed by the councilors aligned on the right.
The initiative is considered a “serious setback” by entities linked to human, sexual and reproductive rights.

The project says it aims to “make the population of the city of São Paulo aware of the psychological consequences that affect women after abortion procedures”.
According to the text, during the week of October 8, when the “National Day for the Right to Life” is celebrated, actions should be performed to “clarify the risks and psychological consequences of the abortion provoked”, as well as psychological and care care for women who suffered gestational losses due to miscarriage or provoked and meeting with specialists in the area.
They should also be made and distributed to the population informative booklets on the risks and psychological consequences of abortion.
The child campaign is not a mother issued a note that points to the “serious setback” represented by the project for “instituting in the municipality a syndrome without scientific recognition”.
The campaign is signed by more than 20 entities, including Amnesty International, Feminist Collective Sexuality and Health, Curumim Group, neither prisoners nor dead, Lamparine and Catholic Institute for the right to decide, among others.
Organizations mention that “research of almost four decades shows that abortion is not associated with psychological damage and, on the contrary, denying the procedure to those who want to perform serious impacts on physical and mental health.”
“We are facing an initiative that endangers the life and dignity of thousands of children victims of rape,” says Letícia Vella, lawyer of the feminist collective sexuality and health and member of the child is not a mother. “PL 69/2025 has no scientific basis, hurts fundamental rights and affronts international human rights recommendations.”
