The State Civil Defense, in partnership with the National Secretariat of Civil Defense and the Civil Defense of Rio Branco, gathered the press on Friday (19) to present details about the new system of emission of natural disasters in Acre.
The test will be held this Saturday (20), at 1:05 pm, in four Acre municipalities: Rio Branco, Cruzeiro do Sul, Brasileia and Jordão. According to the Civil Defense, the cities were strategically chosen. Rio Branco and Cruzeiro do Sul participate in concentrating the largest populations of the state; Brasileia was selected by his history of natural disasters, such as flooding; and Jordan, being an isolated municipality, will serve how the system will work in localities that are difficult to access.

This procedure is part of an integrated action in the northern region. The test will be held in the seven capitals of the northern states and, besides them, in cities selected according to criteria defined by state governments, precisely to evaluate the efficiency of the tool in different urban and rural contexts.
According to Anatel’s director, all 22 municipalities of Acre have 4G signal coverage, and therefore, cell phones connected to 4G and 5G networks will receive the alert. Regardless of what the user is doing at the moment-whether using applications, with the device in silent or locked mode-the message will come in popup form accompanied by vibration and a sound similar to a siren, drawing attention to the warning.
The municipal civil defense coordinator, Colonel Falcão, stressed that, in previous experiences, part of the population was startled to receive the warning without notice. “Many people were panicked, according to information we had. So this meeting today serves to make the population more conscious and prepared for tomorrow’s test, so that everyone understands that it is just a demonstration,” he said.
The appeal will be used in cases of severe situations and emergency situations, such as natural disasters that may represent immediate danger to the population. For the state Civil Defense coordinator, Colonel Carlos Batista, the new technology complements existing communication channels, but without relying on registration. “It comes to add to the information we have already passed by SMS, WhatsApp, Pay TV and Google. The difference is that now no one needs to register to receive. Our concern was to warn hospitals, UPAs, malls and supermarkets, places with large concentration of people, so that there is no scare at the time of shooting,” he explained.

The representative of the National Secretariat of Civil Defense, Rodrigo Souto, detailed what the experience for users will be like. “Tomorrow, around 1 pm, mobile phones in Rio Branco, Brasileia, Cruzeiro do Sul and Jordão will receive a test message. It will appear in pop-up format, with vibration and a sound similar to a siren, regardless of what the person is doing. The idea is to demonstrate how it will be in real situations, but we reinforced that it is just a test and there is no reason for concern,” he explained. He added that the same procedure will be repeated, from 15 hours (Brasília time), in all capitals of the Northern Region and in three cities chosen by each state.
Authorities reinforce that there is no reason for panic. Shipping the message this Saturday will only be a system operating test, without any action by citizens, as well as pressing the “OK” button to end the sound warning.
