The president of the United States, signed a decree on Friday (19) that he officially creates the “Trump Gold Card”, a mechanism that will allow foreigners to request residence in the country upon payment of $ 1 million to the US Treasury. In the case of a legal entity, the amount rises to US $ 2 million (R $ 10.6 million).

The values are lower than that initially announced by the government itself. Before, the president had said that the new visa would cost $ 5 million ($ 26.6 million), without making differentiations.

“They [compradores] They will spend a lot of money to enter. This will raise billions of dollars that will be used to reduce taxes, pay debts and other good things, ”Trump said in the White House. According to him, the initiative is part of his” quality employment “incentive policy in the US.

In the same announcement, Trump announced the creation of another, more expensive and more benefit category called “Platinum Card”. According to him, this card will be available soon for $ 5 million and will allow beneficiaries to “spend up to 270 days in the US without being subject to taxes on income obtained outside the country.”

Trump also said that companies wishing to hire foreign workers with the H-1B work visa will pay $ 100,000 annually for each authorization. Currently, the fee is $ 1,000 ($ 5.3 thousand). H-1B are mainly used by technology companies that depend on qualified labor largely from India and China.

H-1B visas have an initial validity of three years, renewable for up to six. From the first term, Trump has been trying to restrict this kind of permission to prioritize American workers.

Gold Card, in turn, replaces the so-called investor visa (known as EB-5), which allows you to live in the US by investing at least $ 1 million in a company that has at least ten employees.

Unlike Gold Card, EB-5 does not foresee the possibility of acquiring citizenship and requires money to be invested-it is not a simple direct transfer to the American Treasury.

According to the president, the new Gold Card will help the country pay its public debt while offering major companies a way to attract the best immigrant workers.

Prior to the signing of the decree, the Republican even said that it does not intend to create much restrictions on which nationalities could buy the Gold Card, opening the possibility that citizens of US rival countries, such as Russia and China, may eventually buy a way to get residence permission on American soil. More details of the initiative were not released this Friday.
