The next day (17) at night, the deputies approved the urgent request for amnesty to those convicted of the attempted coup of 8 January. In the wake of these decisions, a mobilization on social networks was began by leftist fronts to convene demonstrations against amnesty and the shielding PEC.
In monitoring in more than 100,000 public groups in real-time by Palver, it was possible to identify that the calls for demonstrations on September 21 began on Thursday, 18. The act occurred two weeks after the September 7 mobilizations, organized by the right-wing right in defense of amnesty, and quickly gained digital traction. In leftist groups, lists circulated with the names of PT parliamentarians who voted in favor of the proposal, accompanied by repudiation messages and even requests for party expulsion.
Until the end of the 18th, the agenda of amnesty and shielding on WhatsApp was under right rule, with messages favorable to amnesty and in defense of the president representing between 70% and 90% of the total on the subject. From that date, however, the balance began to change: criticism of amnesty grew, tied the debate and even overcome the pocket field, reaching about 60% of contrary messages at the time of greater engagement on the left.
Even reaching a peak of engagement, the numbers make clear the imbalance of forces: even at its peak, the left reached only about 60% of the messages, while the right -handed right and majority flow, rarely below that level. The most significant data, however, is that even without the protagonism of government or PT figures in the calls – the mobilization of networks has generated an unusual engagement, revealing a genuine popular yearning against armor, capable of overlapping, albeit temporarily, to the pocketmaker domain on Whatsapp.
