France on Monday at an international conference on a two -state conflict resolution in the Middle East organized by France and Saudi Arabia the day before the beginning of the general debate of the UN General Assembly, the UN General Assembly was recognized by the Palestinian State. TASR informs about this on the basis of reports of world agencies.
- France recognized the Palestinian state during the international conference.
- President Macron stressed the pursuit of peace between Israel and Palestine.
- Several other countries have also recently recognized the Palestinian state.
“France has recognized the Palestinian state today,” said French President Emmanuel Macron, saying that he did so for “peace between Israel and Palestinians”. “Therefore, the faithful historical commitment of my country towards the Middle East, to peace between the Israelis and the Palestinians, I declare that today France has recognized the Palestinian state today,” he continued.
Macron called for peace
In his opening speech, the head of the Elysee Palace said he “had time to peace”. “We will never stop with our existential fight against anti -Semitism. We want two states living side by side and safe to become a reality. But now Israel is further expanding its military operation in Gaza with the declared goal of destroying Hamas. Hundreds of thousands of people have been displaced, injured, starved, traumatized.
The French President added that in the territory of the newly recognized Palestinian state, he will not open its embassy until the conflict in the Gaza Strip will not be closed and all Israeli hostages will not be released. Macron announced that several other countries would see the Palestinian statehood during the conference.
Several countries have acknowledged Palestine
Macron announced at the end of July that his country at the UN General Assembly would recognize the Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly. On the social network X, he explained that he decided to do this in accordance with his long -term commitment to a fair and lasting peace in the Middle East.
The Palestinian state was also recognized on Sunday by the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia and Portugal. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced that Britain has done so despite the disagreement that both the US and Israel faced in connection with such a step. The same announcements were released immediately before Starmer by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. Starmer already announced in July that the United Kingdom would recognize Palestinian statehood unless Israel is taking “essential” steps, including reaching a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The decision of the four countries of Israel was condemned in response. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that the Palestinian state would not arise, and promised that Israel would continue to expand the Jewish settlements on the occupied West Bank of Jordan.
A total of more than 140 countries of the world recognize the Palestinian state, which are more than two thirds of the UN members. In May and June this year, Spain, Ireland, Slovenia and Norway joined them. Among the countries in the 27-member Euroblock, the independence of the Palestinian state is recognized, for example, Sweden, Cyprus, Hungary, Czech Republic, Poland, Romania, Bulgaria and Slovakia.
