The storm also hit Hong Kong on Wednesday with winds of up to 195 km/h, which resulted in falling trees and flooding of coastal neighborhoods. The population was sent to temporary shelters.
There are 13 total injuries released so far. Flights, schools and train services are suspended in the region. The rains also caused damage to the infrastructure.
The Hong Kong Observatory warned of a “significant” storm tide, “two to three meters increase at the water level expected to the coast”.
Earlier, the agency had issued the highest level of typhoon warning at night.
