The Zaporožská nuclear power plant remains four days without electricity: Ukraine blames Russia.

Ukraine has accused Russia of leaving the Zaporozka nuclear power plant without electricity. The Foreign Minister calls for international steps to protect nuclear safety.

Ukraine said on Saturday that Russia occupied by the Zaporozka nuclear power plant (Zaes), which is the largest of its kind in Europe, has been four days without electricity supplies. She accused Moscow of this blackout, TASR writes based on AFP report.

“As a result of Russian steps, the Zaporožská nuclear power plant (Zaes) has been without a stream for the fourth day,” wrote Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha on the X platform.

Call for nuclear safety

“We urgently ask all countries interested in nuclear safety to make Moscow clear that her nuclear gambling games must end,” he added.

The Russian forces occupied the Zaporoža nuclear power plant shortly after the start of the invasion of Ukraine in February 2022. According to the Peace Plan, prepared by US President Donald Trump’s administration, Ukraine would regain control over ZaES, but the United States would operate it. Electricity produced in Zaes would be divided between both sides of the conflict.

Uncertainty of operation Zaes

However, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at its time that Russia has not received a bid to transfer control of the negative nuclear power plant and refuses it.

The New York Times (NYT), referring to Greenpeace, said at the end of May this year that Russia is likely to join the occupied Zaes to its mains. For this purpose, the power lines are allegedly built in the occupied part of Ukraine, the daily wrote.
