- Simone Williamson suffered from strong migraines for years.
- In March 2018, she experienced symptoms of stroke that revealed the cause of her pain.
- Doctors have found that it has myeloma, incurable blood cancer.
Simone from Birmingham, England, has suffered from headaches since she was 16, and besides the later diagnosis of epilepsy was relatively healthy. Although she often went to doctors, no treatment was relieved of her symptoms. In March 2018 she received such a strong migraine that she began to show symptoms of stroke including paralysis of the right side of the body.
A woman ambulance was taken to the emergency room where she underwent several examinations. Although doctors initially believed that she could have an inflammatory disease called sarcoidosis, after bone marrow biopsy, she learned a much worse report. It has been shown to suffer from myeloma, incurable blood cancer that most often occurs in people of black.
Experts warn that the symptoms of myeloma, such as back pain, light bone breaking, fatigue or recurrent infections, often overlook. The reason is that they are usually related to less serious diseases.
At a time when Simone was diagnosed with myeloma, she had a lesion all over her body. She explained that doctors found them in the ribs, pelvis, spine and even in the skull. In July 2018, she started chemotherapy, which caused side effects, including peeling of the skin, swelling or nerve damage. “I was troubled by peripheral neuropathy. From toes to my legs to my knees and from my hands to my elbow I had chills and I did not perceive heat or cold“she explained.
In February 2019, Simone underwent stem cell transplantation. Shortly after the procedure, her doctors said she was in remission. “It took all eternity to recover. My two brothers had to carry me up the stairs because I didn’t have the energy,” she said.
She recovered in the following period, but the disease has left trauma. But in 2020, she decided to incorporate again into society and enjoy life. Then she noticed three years later that her back and ribs hurt her again. Her doctor requested blood samples and told her for a few weeks that the cancer had returned. “I had the feeling that I fell on the bottom,” she explained.
At the beginning of 2024, Simone again underwent chemotherapy. She ended up with treatment in July this year and experts assured her that she was again in remission. Nevertheless, he will have to undergo further stem cell transplantation in October.
At present the British is trying to encourage others to listen to their body and donate blood or bone marrow if possible. “If you feel something has changed in your body, it is very important that you solve it,” Simone concluded.
