Before the troubled outcome, the fight presented moments of balance. Wanderlei began the confrontation with great aggressiveness, cornering Popó on the strings on the first round, but the four-time world champion managed to escape and counterattack with a straight blow to the face. In the second round, the former MMA fighter slipped in an attack, and in the third managed to press Popó again, although without great effectiveness. As the gong sounds, the two continued to change punches, further increasing the tension.
It was in the fourth robbery that the weather fled control. After a new sequence of scams, the referee had to stop the dispute and warned Wanderlei, who lost a point for the infraction. The fighter’s insistence on continuing attacking the judge’s intervention, generating the trigger for the turmoil that ended the night.
