Israeli President Yicchak Herzog announced on Monday that he would hand over the highest civilian honor to Israel to US President Donald Trump for his role in ensuring the release of hostages from the Gaza Strip and to end the war. Informed AFP, writes TASR.

“President Trump not only helped to bring our loved ones with his tireless efforts, but also laid the foundations of a new era in the Middle East based on security, cooperation and real hope for a peaceful future,” Herzog stated in a statement published by his office.
“It will be a great honor to give him the Israeli presidential medal of honor,” he added, adding that Trump will be awarded the “coming months”. On Monday, Trump will arrive in Israel for a short visit, during which he will perform in front of Parliament, Knesset. His hostage families are also expected to meet.
The Israel and the Hamas Palestinian movement will exchange hostages detained in the Gaza Strip for prisoners from Israeli prisons as part of the first phase of the peace plan proposed by Trump. The aim of the plan is to end more than a two -year war in Gaza, caused by the attack of Hamas militants and other groups to Israel from October 7, 2023.
