The famous residence of the Schumacher family, Villa La Reserve, on the shores of Lake Geneva, was to become the scene of a sex scandal. On the estate Michael Schumacher (56) was allegedly raped one November night in 2019. As the newspaper reports, one of Schumacher’s nurses was supposed to have been raped.
After work, she should have wanted to relax and go play pool. According to the newspaper, a friend of Michael’s son Mick (26) appeared there. Australian motor racing driver Joey Mawson (29), who was later to be identified as the rapist accused of assaulting Michael Schumacher’s nurse during his stay at the F1 legend’s home, was said to have raped the woman twice after a cocktail party. Mawson denies the allegation, saying their relationship was close and consensual and that they had previously kissed in a nightclub in Geneva.
Mawson was once a rising star in the racing world, dreaming of F1 before returning to Australia. He was a close friend and rival of Schumacher’s son Mick – and raced against other future racing icons such as Lando Norris and George Russell.
However, Mawson, the two-time Australian S5000 champion who is currently banned from racing due to a doping scandal, did not attend the trial. In his absence, the rape trial was formally opened, but then adjourned to a date to be determined.
The indictment accuses him of raping one of Schumacher’s nurses, who was unconscious after a night spent drinking vodka cocktails. Court documents say she was a carer for Michael Schumacher, who needs round-the-clock care after a tragic skiing accident.
No member of the Schumacher family is involved in this case. The allegations date back to 2019, while the criminal complaint against the unnamed man was filed three years ago. On the night of Nov. 23, 2019, Mawson was in a sprawling villa on the shores of Lake Geneva, court documents allege.
According to the indictment, he was playing pool in the pool room with two other members of the racing icon’s staff when the woman in question joined them after a demanding shift. After a few drinks, the nurse began to feel ill and had to lie down on the floor before some of her colleagues carried her to bed, the documents said. According to the indictment, they placed her on top of her without undressing her and left her to sleep with the light on. A short time later, Mawson allegedly came into the room and raped her twice while she was unconscious, the documents allege.
Neither of the other two doctors who were there that night say they saw or heard anything, the nurse herself woke up with no memory of the night’s events. The nurse apparently chose not to press criminal charges or inform the Schumacher family until 2022, when she was fired from the medical team. Mick and Mawson have not been in touch for years and the Schumacher family have refused to comment on the incident.
