President of the Republic awaits the definitive report but admits that the preliminary “is much more than I had thought”.
The report on the accident brought several serious warnings to the way maintenance and supervision of work is carried out at Carris.
The document from the Office for the Prevention and Investigation of Aircraft Accidents and Railway Accidents shows that the elevator cable used to transport people reveals faults and omissions in maintenance, lack of employee training or, for example, that there are inspections – on the day of the accident – registered as carried out but which were not carried out.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa wasn’t expecting it of all these indications. The President of the Republic awaits the definitive report but admits that the preliminary report is much more than he had thought.
“I am a lawyer, I have a legal education. I want to wait for the definitive report. Of course, the preliminary report has already given some consequences, but those are decisions made by those who made them.”
“I wanted to see the definitive report to see if everything in the preliminary report, which It’s much more than I thought and if it is final”, commented Marcelo, to .
The President of the Republic added: “If you are in definitive, So, depending on the definitive, it is necessary, in fact, determine responsibilities”.
Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa did not want to talk about political responsibilities, to avoid “pressure” before the final report.
“Let it be done. The preliminary was done without pressure and now we’re going to see the final, without pressure, to see what is being determined, what state things are in. Then, finally, there are several arguments that can be made about what will be investigated”, he commented.
When asked about the surprises he found in the preliminary report, Marcelo hesitated for a few seconds, in silence, and replied: “I don’t want to be pushing for the definitive report. Two or three things had been talked about and the report adds a few more. So let’s wait for the definitive one.”
