Self-government reform must be a priority for a responsible government. If Hlas-SD was really a party of regions, it would push for a solution to the acute problems of local governments, for example the enormous increase in petty crime. This was announced by MP Jana Hanuliaková of the opposition movement PS in response to Monday’s press conference of the Chairman of the National Council of the Slovak Republic Richard Raši and Minister of the Interior Matúš Šutaj Eštok (both Hlas-SD) during the congress of the Ministry of the Interior (MV) of the Slovak Republic with municipal leaders on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the restoration of self-government in Slovakia.
“We see the press conference of the Minister of the Interior and the Chairman of the National Council as just a continuation of their policy based on a maximum of words and a minimum of deeds. If they really want to help cities, towns and their residents, they should roll up their sleeves and start working.” pointed out Hanuliaková and added that if the government really wants to help municipalities, it should not even support gambling. According to the deputy, it breaks up families and the municipalities themselves reject it.
During the Monday congress of the Ministry of the Interior of the SR with municipal leaders on the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the restoration of self-government in Slovakia, Raši announced that Slovakia is awaiting a major reform of self-government, which must be done from below. The Association of Cities and Municipalities of Slovakia (ZMOS), the Union of Cities of Slovakia (ÚMS) and the Association of Self-Governing Regions of Slovakia (SK8) should come up with the first draft of how they envision the modernization and future of self-government in the coming weeks.
At the same time, the Ministry of the Interior wants to include the new law on road traffic in the agenda of this week’s government meetingwhich would allow municipalities to use stationary radars within the framework of the institute of objective responsibility.
