The debate about wages for performance is currently flaring up over the issue of allowances for overtime. According to the government plan, from 2026 only ten hours of overtime instead of the current 18 will be given tax preferential treatment. The ÖVP wants to renegotiate this and maintain this “reward for additional performance”. The Ministry of Finance and Social Affairs (SPÖ) do not want this from a budget perspective and for labor market policy.
