Alcolumbre criticizes entry flow into Congress – 10/29/2025 – Brasília Hoje

The president of the Federal Senate, (União Brasil), announced this Wednesday (29) that he will “reorganize and modernize” the security infrastructure of the physical headquarters of parliament and warned that he intends to meet with the president of the Chamber of Deputies, (Republicans), to build a common project.

Alcolumbre’s speech took place hours after an episode involving senator Eduardo Braga (MDB), rapporteur for the . Upon leaving the committee meeting that dealt with the MP, the politician was approached by a small group of men who were protesting against the changes in the text while using their cell phones to record the senator’s reaction. The situation generated a brief argument between them.

“You are affecting small people. Many companies will lose business,” one of the protesters told the senator. Braga replied and walked down the corridor.

Later, in a statement, Braga stated that “he was verbally attacked by lobbyists with false accusations.” “The senator reaffirms his commitment to maintaining jobs in all segments involved and has been recognized by several renewable energy associations”, continues the note.

Braga also stated that he “regrets the episode and awaits the Senate’s investigations.”

When opening the plenary session, Alcolumbre spoke about Braga’s case and added that something similar had happened recently with a federal deputy. According to him, this would have motivated him to revive an idea of improving the House’s security that has been going on since 2019.

“I have always been concerned about adapting issues related to security, not only of property, but also of the integrity of all those who visit us, employees, collaborators. Whenever I travel around the world, on official agendas, visiting parliaments in other countries, I see that there is an improvement in infrastructure”, he began.

Alcolumbre did not give details of what he intends to do, but said that “it is time to have a debate about this whole apparatus, to reorganize, for example, the entry and arrival of people at the hat shop [como é conhecida a entrada principal do Congresso Nacional]”.

The president complained about the “flow of entry” and said that there are “people waiting in the cloakroom to attack and offend parliamentarians”. “It’s not normal. There are all kinds of people, it’s a mess,” he said.

“We realize that there is a more robust security system in other public buildings that unfortunately we don’t have here. I’m going to ask for a meeting with Motta so we can think about improving the gates, the guardhouses, the instruments. Facial identification, fingerprint identification, everything that’s more modern. The Congress is very big, it has many entrances”, continued Alcolumbre.

Regarding Braga’s case, Alcolumbre classified the episode as “a cowardly act of aggression”. “The House of the People needs to have its doors open for all those who want to come and collaborate and build a better country. But not for those who insist on attacking and offending those who are fulfilling their obligations, and were legitimately elected,” he said.
