US President said he may cut off humanitarian aid to the African country if the local government does not stop the “murder of Christians”
The President of the United States, Donald Trump (Republican), said this Saturday (Nov 1, 2025) that he may invade Nigeria to “annihilate Islamic terrorists” in response to the killing of Christians by jihadist groups. The statement came hours after the Nigerian government denied Trump’s claim that there is a “massacre of Christians” not country.
The republican also threatened to cut humanitarian aid to the African nation if the local Executive does not act to stop attacks carried out by extremist militias such as Boko Haram and the Islamic State of West Africa Province. “The Nigerian government must act quickly”he declared.
“Se If the Nigerian government continues to allow the murder of Christians, the US will immediately suspend all aid and assistance to Nigeria and may very well invade this now disgraced country, “guns blazing,” to completely annihilate the Islamic terrorists who are committing these horrific atrocities. I am instructing our War Department to prepare for possible action. If we attack, it will be swift, brutal and accurate, just as terrorists attack our beloved Christians.”Trump on his Truth Social profile.
On Friday (Oct 31), the North American president said on his social network that Christianity was facing a “existential threat” in Nigeria. The most populous country in Africa is today divided between Christians (to the south of the territory) and Muslims (to the north), but followers of Islam are the majority and are expanding.
Trump also designated Nigeria as a “country of special concern”which could lead the US government to apply economic sanctions against the 4th largest African economy.
In a statement this Sunday (Nov 1), Nigerian President Bola Tinubu (All Progressives Congress, center), rejected Trump’s criticism and said that the country values religious freedom and tolerance. “Nigeria is a country with constitutional guarantees to protect citizens of all faiths”added the head of state.
