During the Lide Brazil–United Kingdom event, the former governor of São Paulo, assessed the mega police operation in Rio de Janeiro carried out by the state government against organized crime as successful. Despite regretting the violent scenario, Doria stated that the action was necessary and expressed support for Governor Cláudio Castro’s decision, recommending, however, that the head of the Rio de Janeiro Executive maintain dialogue with the federal government.

The former governor also defended the re-creation of the Ministry of Public Security, a proposal already supported by figures such as former president Michel Temer. According to Doria, the measure should not represent an increase in bureaucracy, but rather the strengthening of policies to combat crime, an issue that, according to him, is “the main concern of Brazilians”. “Security is not a question of right or left, it is a need of the population. Our police forces need to be well equipped and prepared, they cannot be victims of crime”, stated Doria.

During the forum, Doria also addressed economic topics, highlighting the importance of expanding trade relations between Brazil and the United Kingdom until 2030. He criticized the Brazilian government’s lack of dialogue and initiative in accelerating this process and pointed out that legal uncertainty continues to be one of the main obstacles to foreign investment. “Frequent changes in rules keep long-term investors away. Brazil needs to do its homework so as not to scare away opportunities”, he added.

The event was attended by Brazilian and British businessmen and politicians. In parallel, Doria aligned herself with the position of several governors — including Romeu Zema (MG), Ronaldo Caiado (GO) and Jorginho Mello (SC) — who also praised the operation in Rio de Janeiro and reinforced support for firmer public security policies in the country.
