Partnership allows students to obtain double degrees and international training in management and sustainable innovation
The FEA (Faculty of Economics, Administration, Accounting and Actuarial Science) at USP (University of São Paulo) signed an agreement with the Sorbonne University, in Paris (France), which will allow students from its 4 undergraduate courses – Administration, Actuarial Sciences, Accounting Sciences and Economics – to obtain the title of Master Management of Innovation, granted by the French institution.
The program, which in Brazil is equivalent to a postgraduate degree summer of meaningwill be offered entirely at FEA, with classes taught in English by Sorbonne teachers. The agreement was signed in Madrid (Spain) on October 23, during a meeting of Una Europa, an international alliance of research-intensive European universities of which the Sorbonne and USP are part.
The formalization ceremony was attended by the rector of Paris 1, Christine Leduc; the director of FEA, Maria Dolores Montoya Diaz; and the rector of USP, Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Junior. The program is the result of more than 2 years of joint work between the two institutions, with direct coordination between the director of FEA and the director of the Sorbonne School of Administration, Florent Pratlong.
The next steps include defining the calendar and publishing the selection notice, which will be released to students soon. This is expected to occur at the end of 2025 for the program to begin next year. 60 participants will be selected, who will attend 8 thematic modules on management and innovation. In addition to classes, the program includes seminars and events with the participation of French professionals and companies in São Paulo.
“The proposal is to train professionals with a global vision and the ability to lead innovation processes in a sustainable way”highlights Maria Dolores. “At the end of the program, participants will be prepared to act as responsible leaders in different sectors, mastering innovative project management methodologies, team leadership, change strategies and challenges in business environments on a global scale. The proposal combines theory and practice in an interactive approach, with real case studies, group activities and a strong integration between the contents of the two universities.”
Among the subjects taught by Sorbonne professors are “Culture of Innovation: Best Practices in Europe and Worldwide”, “Entrepreneurship and Business Creation” and “Marketing of Innovation and Brand Strategy in Digital Area”. All of them will be integrated into the workload of FEA’s undergraduate courses, without the need to extend the training time.
For the rector, the partnership reinforces the historical ties between USP and the Sorbonne and expands the possibilities for international cooperation. “Completing the course with an undergraduate degree from USP in addition to a Master’s degree from the Sorbonne, in addition to close contact with French companies, opens doors to careers and increases the employability of our students, who will gain a lot from this initiative. This is an action that strengthens the concept of internationalization at home, something in which we have invested a lot in recent years. USP is a large and comprehensive University, and it ends up being impossible to send thousands of students abroad. Programs like this allow our students to have an international experience, with foreign teachers and classes in English, in a much more accessible way, without the travel costs”points out Carlotti.
