Trial of the State Attorney General, Álvaro García Ortiz, live | García Ortiz’s trial begins for revelation of secrets | Spain

The State Attorney General has already reached the Supreme Court

Álvaro García Ortiz arrived from the Attorney General’s Office in his official car at 9:42 to the door reserved for magistrates and authorities, where several people welcomed him with applause and shouts of “encouragement.” Starting today, the head of the public ministry faces a trial for revealing secrets for allegedly leaking to the media an email linked to businessman Alberto González Amador, partner of Isabel Díaz Ayuso, who was being investigated for tax fraud and who is now being prosecuted for that crime and for document falsification.

For the trial, the court has planned six days in the morning and afternoon, during which 40 witnesses will testify, among others, González Amador himself; the chief of staff of the Madrid president, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez; eight prosecutors; and 12 journalists who claim that they knew details of the email before it reached the hands of the attorney general, who faces a request for a sentence of up to six years in prison and 12 years of disqualification.

In this Monday’s session, which is scheduled to start at 10:00, four prosecutors will testify, including García Ortiz’s right-hand man and the provincial chief prosecutor of Madrid, whom the Supreme Court also investigated, but ultimately have not sat on the bench. The declaration of the attorney general as the accused is scheduled for the penultimate day of the trial, once all the evidence has been taken.
