Government invests 52 million in fire prevention and wants to double the area of ​​controlled fires

In addition to the acquisition of new equipment, the The government plan also includes 30 million to support pastoralism and double the area of ​​controlled fires by 2026.

This Monday, forestry workers in the district of Viana do Castelo received new fire prevention equipment. There are 135 motor brushcutters acquired with the support of European funds. The Government guarantees that it will continue to reinforce the fire prevention device.

In total, sappers will receive more than two thousand new pieces of equipment. In Arcos de Valdevez, the first 135 motor brushcutters were delivered to 27 teams in the Viana do Castelo district.

The planned investment in new equipment for forestry technicians is 52 million euros. But the Government emphasizes that this is just part of the strategy to improve fire prevention. The plan also foresees 30 million euros to support pastoralism and, therefore, reduce combustible material in forests.

Another measure involves focusing on controlled fires. The objective is to double the area where this practice is applied.

This year, controlled fire was used on around 2,500 hectares. In 2026, the Government wants to reach 5,000 hectares.
