Russia announces key advances in strategic Pokrovsk and Kupiansk: in just 24 hours

The Russian Army said today that it had made important advances during the last 24 hours in the strongholds of Pokrovsk (Donetsk) and Kupiansk (Kharkov), in addition to capturing new towns in the Zaporizhia region. According to the war report, Russian units took another 256 buildings in Pokrovsk on the last day, the scene of the most important battle of the war in Donbas.

As part of these advances, Russian detachments took control of almost a hundred homes in the town of Rig, located on the outskirts of Pokrovsk. The Russians had already taken Hnativka this week, which is southeast of said city, an important coal center and communications hub.

As for the satellite city of Mirnograd, the Russians continue to expel their enemy from the neighborhoods located to the west, east and south, the military note on Telegram states. In addition, Defense highlighted that assault units of the Sixth Army have taken control of all of eastern Kupiansk, a city that Russian leader Vladimir Putin said at the end of October was completely surrounded, something kyiv denies.

Taking advantage of “adverse weather conditions”

Russia also conquered another new town in Zaporizhzhia, where its troops have been progressing at forced marches since last month. Their latest trophy was the village of Novouspenivka. Putin announced on October 26 that his army had surrounded fifty enemy battalions (about 10,500 men), both in Pokrovsk and Kupiansk, and demanded their surrender.

Ukraine maintains that Russian propaganda exaggerates its victories, although it admits that the enemy has gained ground in recent weeks at the cost of tens of thousands of casualties. However, the Ukrainian Armed Forces have confirmed the presence of more than 300 Russian soldiers inside the besieged city of Pokrovsk, one of the few remaining Ukrainian strongholds in the largely Russian-occupied province of Donetsk and whose control is key both in logistical and symbolic terms.

Ukrainian authorities have reported that Russian forces have used “adverse weather conditions” to successfully intensify their attempts to access Pokrovsk, a mining and industrial enclave, essential for communications for what little kyiv has left in the Donbas.

Russian forces have entered the southern part of the city. Their objective continues to be to reach the northern border and subsequently try to encircle the front, the VII Corps of the Airborne Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has detailed in its Telegram account.
