Brazil is re-elected as president of the UN Tourism body – 11/11/2025 – Panel

Brazil was re-elected this Tuesday (11) as president of the Tourism Executive Council. The country, which will serve its second term, received 21 votes at the entity’s meeting in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, against 13 for Slovenia.

Brazil was represented by the executive secretary of the Ministry of Tourism, Ana Carla Lopes, since the holder of the portfolio, , is in , in . He participated via videoconference.

Among the points highlighted by Brazil are the fact that it led the implementation of the UN Tourism Regional Office for the Americas and the Caribbean, in Rio de Janeiro, guaranteed the holding of the UN Global Gastronomic Tourism Regional Forum in Santarém (PA), in February 2026, and appointed Shaikha Nasser Al Nowais, from the United Arab Emirates, as the organization’s first female secretary-general.

Brazil was also elected to lead discussions on tourism and climate action at UN Tourism for the next two years.

Sabino remains in the Tourism portfolio even though he faces an accusation for having disrespected a decision to leave the Lula government. He intends to leave office only in April of next year, to run for the Senate in Pará.
