A new strong earthquake of magnitude 5.3 on the Richter scale occurred in the according to the Euro-Mediterranean Institute. The focal depth is located at 14.3 kilometers, while the epicenter of the earthquake is estimated at 10 kilometers southeast of Paphos.

Lekkas: “Attention is needed for the next 48 hours”
Speaking on the ERTnews show Update, the professor of Dynamic Tectonics and Applied Geology and president of OASP, Efthymios Lekkas noted that the next 48 hours need attention “because the nature of faults is not always known. We know that rifts exist and intersect the terrestrial space. But we don’t know the faults that are in the underwater space and how these faults are connected to each other”.

The Department of Geological Survey of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment announces that today, November 12, 2025, at 11:31 local time, a strong earthquake measuring M=5.3 on the Richter scale was recorded by the Department’s seismological network.
The earthquake had its epicenter in the area of Agia Marina Kelokedaro, 20 kilometers north-east of the city of Paphos and a focal depth of 15 kilometers. Post-seismic sequence is in progress.
The earthquake was strongly felt throughout Cyprus and especially in the provinces of Paphos, Limassol and Nicosia. It was also noticed on the coasts of the eastern Mediterranean. More information here.
