Observed for the first time: Orcas hunt together with dolphins and share the prey

They are at the top of the food chain in the icy waters of the North Pacific: orcas and white-striped dolphins are top predators that are also extremely social and cooperate with their fellow dolphins when hunting. Amazingly, collaboration can even transcend species boundaries, as Canadian oceanographer Sarah Fortune and her research team recently reported. For the first time, experts managed to observe killer whales and dolphins hunting together. The prey – fairly shared – is salmon.
