This year, 395 boats carrying at least 7,322 migrants have already arrived in the Balearic Islands
At least 425 migrants were rescued at sea or intercepted on land by the Civil Guard and Maritime Rescue in the Balearic Islands, Spanish authorities said this Friday.
The migrants were on 26 boats that left Algeria, according to the same sources.
According to the Spanish Government delegation in the Balearic Islands, 171 people arrived on the islands of Mallorca and Formentera on Tuesday in 10 boats.
On Wednesday, 189 migrants arrived on the coasts of Mallorca, Ibiza and Formentera, or were rescued in surrounding waters, in 13 boats.
Civil Guard agents intercepted 24 migrants from Sub-Saharan Africa on Thursday, after midnight, who arrived on a boat at Marina Botafoc, in the city of Ibiza.
The most recent operations, reported by the Government delegation on Thursday night, took place in Formentera, where 17 people of North African origin were detained on Migjorn beach, and in Ibiza, where another 24 Maghrebians were detained on S’Estanyol beach.
This year, 395 boats carrying at least 7,322 migrants have arrived in the Balearic Islands, according to a survey carried out by the EFE news agency based on data from the Ministry of the Interior and the Spanish Government delegation.
In 2024, 5,882 migrants arrived in the archipelago by sea, according to the Spanish Ministry of the Interior’s Annual National Security Report.
