Moraes denies domicile request and keeps Bolsonaro in the PF – 01/01/2026 – Politics

The minister of the (Supreme Federal Court) denied this Thursday (1st) a request from the defense of the former president (PL) for humanitarian house arrest.

The former president was admitted to the DF Star hospital, in , on the 24th, to undergo hernia surgery. He — which is why he underwent three surgical procedures, respectively on Saturday (27), Monday (29) and Tuesday (30).

The discharge is scheduled for this Thursday, and the defense asked that he not return to the Superintendency of the Federal District, where he is serving his sentence after being defeated in the 2022 elections.

In his decision, Moraes said that “unlike what was alleged by the defense, there was no worsening of Jair Messias Bolsonaro’s health situation, but, rather, a clinical picture of improvement in the discomfort he was feeling, after carrying out the elective surgeries, as pointed out in his own doctors’ report”.

“I also highlight that all medical prescriptions indicated as necessary in the defense petition can be fully carried out at the Federal Police Superintendence, without any harm to the health of the person in custody, since, since the beginning of the sentence, 24-hour medical duty has been established; as well as full access to their doctors, with the necessary medicines, physiotherapist and delivery of food produced by their family members”, stated the minister.

After the three surgeries to treat hiccups, doctors concluded that Bolsonaro had improved, but that he would need to continue undergoing non-invasive treatments to try to control this problem.

According to the medical bulletin released this Wednesday (31), the endoscopy revealed the “persistence of esophagitis and gastritis”.

“[Ele] continues to be treated for gastroesophageal reflux disease, respiratory physiotherapy, nocturnal CPAP therapy [aparelho que ajuda na respiração] and preventive measures for thrombosis”, completes the document.

“The endoscopy showed the condition he already had, which is gastritis and erosive esophagitis. We probably suspect that this esophagitis is the main cause of the hiccups,” said Brasil Caiado, a cardiologist on the medical team.

Bolsonaro received a series of self-care guidelines that he will have to follow, for example eating more fractionally and not lying down after eating to avoid reflux. According to doctors, he will continue with bandages after discharge and will need to pay special attention to the risk of falling due to the use of CPAP.
