Kiev reveals it staged death of Russian commander fighting for Ukraine

Ukrainian military intelligence services announced that the death of Denis Kapoustine it was fictional and was part of a “special operation”. THE simulation pallowed to identify members of the Russian special services who intended to assassinate the military leader.

Ukraine revealed on Thursday that a Russian warlord fighting for Kiev, whose death was announced last week, was actually alive and that his death was staged to identify Russian agents.

On Saturday, the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK) announced that its commander, Denis Kapoustine, had been killed at the front in the Zaporijjia region (south) during a Russian drone attack.

The Ukrainian military intelligence services (GUR) announced this Thursday that this death was fictional and was part of a “special operation” that lasted more than a month.

“Congratulations on your return to life, it’s always a pleasure,” said GUR head Kyrylo Boudanov in a video conference with Denis Kapoustine.

For his part, Denis Kapoustine said he was ready to “return to the operations zone” at the front and continue to command his unit.

According to GUR, the simulation of this death allowed to identify members of the Russian special services that they had put a price on Denis Kapoustine’s head and intended to murder him.

“We also received the amount of money allocated by the Russian special services to commit this crime”, that is, 500 thousand dollars, said an anonymous GUR official in this video, cited by the France Press agency.

Who is Denis Kapoustine?

A well-known figure in the ‘hooligan’ and far-right circles in Russia, Denis Kapoustine was accused in the past of defending neo-Nazi ideas.

Known by several pseudonyms, such as Nikitine or White Rex, moved to Ukraine before the where he organized MMA (mixed martial arts) fights and owned a clothing brand.

After taking up arms to fight for Kiev, Kapoustine gained notoriety in the spring of 2023. His unit carried out border raids into Russia from Ukraine.

It’s not the first time that Kiev carries out this type of operation.

In late May 2018, Ukrainian special services orchestrated the “fake death” of a Russian journalist Kremlin opponent Arkadi Babtchenko, according to authorities, to prevent an assassination attempt by Moscow against him.

The Ukrainian authorities simulated his murder for 24 hours, deceiving the press, a scenario that was widely criticized at the time.
