Indonesia became the first country to temporarily block the Grok chatbot after the risk of spreading pornographic content through artificial intelligence was confirmed. Europe is also interfering with the platform.
Indonesia temporarily blocked the Grok chatbot on Saturday due to the risk of spreading pornographic content that the platform can generate. It thus became the first country to block access to this artificial intelligence (AI) tool, TASR reports, according to a Reuters report.
Chatbot Grok is based on AI and integrated into billionaire Elon Musk’s X social network. According to Reuters, it is currently facing a lot of criticism and is being investigated in Europe for its feature that allows users to generate sexually explicit images.
The government’s attitude to deepfake
“The government considers the practice of unauthorized sexual so-called deepfake content to be a serious violation of human rights, dignity and security of citizens in the digital space,” said the Minister of Communications and Digital Technologies Meutya Hafid in a statement.
Her department also summoned X officials to discuss the matter.
Limitation of chatbot functions
Although the Grok chatbot initially dismissed concerns about image generation, it has now limited the feature to paying subscribers of the platform, Reuters reports.
The agency also adds that Indonesia, the country with the largest Muslim population in the world, has strict rules that prohibit the sharing of obscene content on the Internet.
