The CBF held, this Wednesday (28), the draw that defined the duels for the second phase of the Copa do Brasil. At the same event, the field commands for the first phase of the national competition were also confirmed.

The event brought together club representatives and followed the criteria previously published by the entity. The definition of the clashes already allows the teams to begin logistical and sporting planning for the remainder of the tournament.

Copa do Brasil draw rules

Most of the teams that compete in Series B of the Brazilian Championship begin their journey in the Copa do Brasil from the second phase. The crossings were previously organized by the CBF, following the logic between the eight pots.

The composition of the pots follows the National Club Ranking (RNC). In total, the second phase will feature 88 teams, with 74 clubs better positioned in the ranking.

The other 14 places will be filled by the teams that advance from the first phase, which will complete pots G and H of the competition.

The Copa do Brasil regulations provide for three ways to enter the tournament. According to criterion 1, Serie A clubs enter directly into the fifth phase of the competition.

Criterion 2 includes the champions of the regional cups, in addition to the winners of Series C and Series D of the Brazilian Championship. These teams enter the intermediate stages of the tournament.

Criterion 3 brings together clubs classified through state championships, which form the majority of participants in the initial phases.

Dates and format of the second phase

The second phase games are scheduled for February 25th and 26th and March 4th and 5th. As in the previous phase, the clashes will be decided in a single match. In case of a draw in regular time, the classification will be decided on penalties.

First phase commands defined

In addition to the clashes in the second phase, the CBF also confirmed the field commands for the first phase of the Copa do Brasil. The initial matches will be played on February 18th and 19th, in single games.

The draw held this Wednesday confirmed the commands that had already been released by the entity last Monday (26). As in the other initial phases, there is no advantage of a draw.
