Coalition formed by PSD, Patriota and União Brasil filed an appeal after TRE-SC acquitted senator and rejected impeachment
The TSE (Superior Electoral Court) will judge on February 5th the appeal that could result in the revocation of the senator’s mandate (PL-SC). The session was to analyze the action filed by the Bora Trabalho coalition, formed by PSD, Patriota and União Brasil, which contests the TRE-SC (Regional Electoral Court of Santa Catarina) in favor of the congressman.
The case against the senator is being processed on suspicion of abuse of economic power during his campaign for the Senate in 2022. The coalition calls for the revocation and ineligibility of Seif’s ticket. If convicted, Seif could lose his mandate, with the possibility of calling new elections. If acquitted, the action will be archived.
The case presented by the “Let’s Work” coalition is against Jorge Seif and his deputies, Hermes Klann and Adrian Rogers Censi, and the businessman Luciano Hang, owner of Havan, and Almir Manoel Atanázio dos Santos, president of the São João Batista Footwear Industries Union.
The accusation is that the businessmen had interfered in the 2022 electoral campaign.
Here are the main practices questioned by the parties:
- use of Havan’s structure and team for the campaign;
- use of a helicopter provided by a businessman to go to campaign events;
- electoral propaganda financed by a union.
In a note sent to Poder360Luciano Hang said that nothing was done wrong.
“I hope that justice is done and that Senator Jorge Seif remains in office, because nothing, nothing was done wrong,” said the owner of Havan.
O Poder360 also approached Senator Jorge Seif and the São João Batista Footwear Industry Union to ask if they would like to comment on the process. There was no response until the publication of this report. The text will be updated if a statement is sent to this digital newspaper.
In April 2024, the senator’s defense argued against him.
