Name of the former minister of Foreign Affairs of the SR Miroslav Lajčák also appeared in new documents related to the case of sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. The new files mention young girls and the possibility of Fico’s communication with the ultra-right American politician Steve Bannon.
Lajčák emphasized in an interview that it was only a verbal exchange. “I don’t remember those text messages, eight years have passed since then. I don’t want to rant or run away from responsibility. I don’t confirm, but I can’t deny either,” said Lajčák. “I understand that from today’s point of view it is incomprehensible and indefensible. But then we did not know what we know today. If I had such information, I would never have entered into it,” he added.
According to his own words, Epstein was introduced to him by a high-ranking diplomat. He described what their conversations were about. “We talked about politics, about Trump. When big names communicated with him, why shouldn’t I, as a boy from Slovakia, accept it?” he continued.
He did not know about the acts of the sex offender and distanced himself from them. „My relationship with him was about words, not actions. There were no sexual items or money,” emphasized Lajčák. “When I read the news today, I feel like a fool. It was a private conversation – let’s be honest, who would want the whole nation to read their news. At the very least, I made a poor judgment call.” he admitted.
In the interview, he poured ashes on his head. “It’s just stupid male egos in action, the communication of two vain guys,” he added, saying he had never been to any of Epstein’s private events. He stated that it was a mistake and unacceptable communication, for which he takes responsibility. A few days ago, he gave up his position as advisor to Prime Minister Robert Fico due to communication with Epstein.
