Flávio Bolsonaro compares Lula to ‘old Opala’ and calls him outdated

Pre-candidate for the Presidency of the Republic, senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL-RJ) criticized President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), running for re-election, in an interview with Fan FM radio in Sergipe this Monday, 2. On the occasion, Flávio compared Lula to an “old Chevrolet Opala”.

“At some point, the Opala was once beautiful, it was once a luxury car, that gave results and took you anywhere. Today, Lula is a retrograde, backward and outdated person”, stated the senator.

Launched in 1968, the Opala was Chevrolet do Brasil’s first passenger car and arrived offering luxury and status. The end of the model’s life was announced in Car Newspaper on July 22, 1992.

When contacted through the Presidency’s Communication Secretariat, Lula did not comment.

The son of former president Jair Bolsonaro also criticized the fact that Lula does not use a cell phone and the president’s position in relation to Artificial Intelligence (AI), which has been marked by caution.

“He’s a guy who thinks that AI is only used to manipulate videos and photos on social networks. He has no idea how important this is for a government that wants to be guided by modernity”, declared Flávio.

Lula has adopted a critical discourse on fake news, social media algorithms and the risks of using AI. On the 16th of this month, he warned about the use of technology in image manipulation, saying that extra attention is needed, especially in the case of women who have photos transformed into ‘nudes’ through digital tools.

Flávio Bolsonaro also stated that AI is strategic for the area of ​​public security and that Lula is unaware of the technology’s potential.
