Police intervention in a hospital in western Slovakia! They accused eight people and the head of the department

A police investigator accused the mayor of one of the departments of the hospital in Topoľčany of accepting bribes. Charges of the crime of bribery were also brought against eight other persons. The anti-corruption unit of the Office for the Fight against Organized Crime (ÚBOK) of the Presidium of the Police Force carried out a police action aimed at investigating suspicions of corrupt criminal activity in a hospital in Topoľčany. This was confirmed by Roman Hájek, spokesman for the Presidium of the Police.

The anti-corruption unit ÚBOK carried out a police operation aimed at checking suspicions of corrupt criminal activity in the hospital in Topoľčany on Tuesday (February 3). Based on the findings so far, the investigator brought charges against the head of one of the hospital’s departments for the ongoing crime of accepting bribes, in a total of nine cases. At the same time, eight other persons were charged with the crime of bribery.

According to the findings of the police, bribes should have been provided in the form of financial cash in hundreds of euros, as well as in the form of other consumables. Among the accused is also a representative of a company operating in the field of medical technology, in which the bribe was supposed to be 500 euros. All accused persons are currently being prosecuted at large.

The police action was carried out in cooperation with the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Nitra. Due to the ongoing criminal proceedings and the principle of presumption of innocence, it is currently not possible to provide further details, stated Hájek.
