Edinho Silva says Haddad will be a candidate for “whatever he wants” in elections

The president of the Workers’ Party, Edinho Silva, stated on Thursday (5) that the Minister of Finance, Fernando Haddad (PT), will be able to run for the position he wants in the 2026 elections, but defended that the politician dialogue with the party to define his role in the dispute.

“Haddad can be a candidate for whatever he wants. There is no pressure on this, there is no reason to put pressure on Haddad. What exists is the need for dialogue to understand the responsibility and role he can play in the electoral process”, he stated during an event marking the party’s 46th anniversary.

The ‘defense’ of the minister comes amid growing pressure for Haddad to fulfill an electoral role in São Paulo — a mission assigned by Lula, but formally refused several times in statements by the minister, who prefers to work directly in the president’s campaign.
