The United States has called on Ukraine and Russia to end the nearly four-year conflict by June this year. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Saturday that Washington plans to put pressure on both sides to reach peace within a set time frame. According to him, the Americans want a clear plan of events that would lead to the end of the war, and they are ready to take all the necessary steps.
- The US called on Ukraine and Russia to end the conflict.
- Washington plans to push the two sides to peace by June.
- They propose new peace talks in the US next week.
- Russia insists on withdrawing Ukraine from Donbass, Kiev refuses.
- Fighting in Donbas continues, the situation remains critical.
At the same time, Zelensky reported that the United States proposed holding a new round of peace negotiations as early as next week. The meeting should be held in the USA, probably in Miami, while Ukraine has already confirmed its participation. The proposal comes at a time when the international community is trying to find a solution to end the conflict, which has claimed thousands of lives and caused widespread damage.
Negotiations without breakthroughs
The latest statement by the Ukrainian president followed trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia and the United States held in Abu Dhabi. However, these talks did not bring any fundamental progress, as both sides continue to insist on their demands. According to the AP agency, the negotiations ended without concrete results, which underlines the complexity of the situation and the ongoing tension between Kyiv and Moscow.
Russia continues to demand that Ukraine withdraw from the Donbas region, where intense fighting is taking place. However, Kyiv categorically rejects this condition, while repeatedly emphasizing that the territorial integrity of the country is not subject to compromise. The situation in Donbass remains critical, with fighting in the region continuing with no sign of abating.
Tension in Donbass
Donbas has become the main focus of the conflict that began in 2019. Russian forces and pro-Russian separatists in the region are facing Ukrainian troops, with both sides reporting heavy casualties. At the same time, Ukraine faces increasing pressure from the international community to find a way to end the conflict, but at the same time refuses any concessions that could threaten its sovereignty.
The United States is trying to play a key role in brokering peace, but its efforts have so far not yielded the expected results. Nevertheless, Washington is continuing its diplomatic initiatives, and the upcoming talks in the US could represent another attempt to find a solution. The talks are expected to be accompanied by intense pressure on both sides to reach a compromise and end the conflict that is destabilizing the region.
