President of the PT defends calm about the end of the 6×1 scale – 02/09/2026 – Politics

The national president of , Edinho Silva, stated this Monday (9) that the end of the 6×1 scale should be debated with caution in Congress, when commenting on questions from businesspeople on the subject, at a lunch held by the Lide business group.

The agenda, which is the target of proposals for change in the Legislature, has been defended by the president (PT) in speeches and should be one of his campaign flags for the re-election dispute.

“It’s a topic that should be dealt with calmly. This is the appropriate space for this discussion”, stated Edinho, in response to a question from a businessman, at an event at the W. hotel in São Paulo.

This Monday (9), the president of , (-PB), announced that he is putting an end to the 6×1 working day, which provides for one day of rest for six days of work.

The minister of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, (), said that he will look for Motta to speed up the process, arguing that the Legislature should discuss a PL (Bill) on an urgent basis.

At the Lide event, the topic was raised by Paulo Solmucci Júnior, president of Abrasel (Brazilian Association of Bars and Restaurants). According to him, a possible reduction in working hours could increase costs and lead to layoffs, especially in labor-intensive sectors, such as bars and restaurants.

When responding, Edinho also said that the debate takes place in several countries around the world and needs to consider economic and social impacts. He also argued that the agenda is associated with income distribution.

“Technology has increased productivity with less use of workforce, but without creating consumption capacity. In a country like Brazil, where 1% of the population accounts for 25% of the income, this debate is central,” he said.

After lunch, in a press conference with journalists, Edinho praised the vice-president () and stated that he will be able to run for “any position he wants” in the 2026 elections.

“Alckmin is a person very dear to all of us. I admire him for the work he has done. I have said that he will be a candidate for whatever he wants,” he said.

Last week, in an interview with the UOL portal, President Lula stated that the PT was capable of winning the elections in São Paulo and that . “I haven’t talked to Haddad yet, I haven’t talked to Alckmin yet, but they know they have a role to play in São Paulo. They know,” said Lula at the time.

As shown by Sheetwho does not intend to run for any position if he is removed from the ticket on which Lula will seek re-election. .

This Monday, Edinho denied the existence of a crisis between President Lula and Haddad. According to him, conversations between the two are frequent and deal with the political impact of the minister’s eventual departure from the economic team. “President Lula talks to Haddad every day. There is no crisis,” he stated.

The leader stated that the PT works to expand alliances, including with center and center-right parties. “We have to build a policy of alliances to elect governors and senators committed to democracy and re-elect President Lula. If center-right parties want to support a program that leaves a legacy for future generations and defends democracy, I see no contradiction,” he said.

According to Edinho, definitions on candidacies must advance by the end of March, the legal deadline for disqualifying public positions.

The PT leader also cited, at the event, political polarization as a factor in the erosion of representative democracy. “This feeling of dissatisfaction fuels an environment of polarization that makes dialogue difficult,” he said.
