Government presses 6×1 to force opposition error, says Arko Advice

The federal government is pressing the issue of ending the 6×1 work schedule as a strategy to force a mistake from the opposition, according to an assessment by political scientist Lucas de Aragão, from Arko Advice, during participation in the WW this Monday (9).

According to Aragão, the recent move by , to process the proposal does not necessarily mean that it will be approved.

“Well, first point is that I think this movement is not a guarantee of approval”, he highlighted, adding that the original text presented by congresswoman Erika Hilton (PSOL-SP) will probably undergo modifications.

The analyst noted that the Minister of the Government Secretariat himself has already mentioned the possibility of a 5×2 schedule with 40 hours per week, different from the initial proposal.

“The government forces the issue, puts its foot on the accelerator, precisely to force a mistake on the part of the opposition, a mistake on the part of someone who is not on the government’s side at the moment,” he explained.

Electoral strategy

According to Aragão, the issue has strong electoral appeal and the government will not allow it to take the lead on the issue.

“It’s an agenda with strong electoral appeal, it’s a government agenda, the government will not let Congress take over this agenda, it will say that it belongs to it, that it belongs to the government”, he stated.

Despite the pressure, the political scientist considers that there is still a long way to go until possible approval.

“It will need negotiation, it will need changes, it will need a transition, in my opinion. So it’s a first step, but a PEC has a long way to go in a very busy year, an election year”, he concluded.
