Quaest: 30% say they have benefited from income tax exemption; 67% say no

Research by the Genial/Quaest institute released this Thursday, 12th, shows that 30% of Brazilians say they have benefited from the exemption for those who earn up to R$5,000 from Income Tax (IR). Another 67% say no. Those who do not know or did not respond are 3%.

The Genial/Quaest institute interviewed 2,004 people between the 5th and 9th of February. The margin of error is two percentage points and the reliability index is 95%.

In regional segments, the region with the fewest people who said they had benefited was the Northeast (23%). The one that had the most positive impact among Brazilians over 16 years old was the South (38%). The Southeast had 31% and the Central-West/North scored 32%.

Among those who earn up to two minimum wages, 23% said they benefited and 74% said they did not. As for those who receive between two and five salaries, and are the main segment that the government sought to attract with the measure, 34% said they had been positively impacted and 63% said they had not.

Among those who receive more than five minimum wages, 33% said they benefited. Those who denied are 65%.

For 15% of Brazilians, income increased significantly. Another 32% say there was a difference, but not much. Those who did not see impacts account for 50%. Another 3% do not know or did not respond.

For those earning up to two minimum wages, 15% noticed a significant impact. Those who noticed this considerable difference are 14% among those who receive between two and five minimum wages. Among those earning more than five salaries, income increased significantly for 17% of respondents.
