Banskobystrica self-governing region (BBSK) plans to establish a center for drones and science in Fiľakovo, which will be part of the Fiľakovo Gymnasium and Secondary Vocational School. According to the region, the focus and scope of the project should be exceptional within the whole of Central Europe, the costs are estimated at over two million euros. This was stated for TASR by Vanesa Čierna, BBSK’s communications specialist.
“The Center for Drones and Science will be a unique regional campus that connects cutting-edge education, hands-on development, community collaboration and technology popularization. Its main focus will be on drone technology, robotics, programming and their real-world applications.” Čierna zoomed in.
The center should include three educational and research laboratories serving for the education of pupils, teaching staff, experts and the general public. It will be an informatics-drone laboratory focused on programming and processing data from drones, a biochemical laboratory used to analyze samples from the field and work with data obtained using drones, and a language laboratory whose main task will be to strengthen language competences in technical and international contexts.
“For this, a practical drone training center will be created, which will focus on simulations, flying, field testing, drone control and safety. Students in the drone center will work with experts in drones, data and robotics, work with real data, use analytical and digital tools, which significantly increases their readiness for practice.” added Čierna, stating that the center for drones and science will also organize workshops, public events, exhibitions, competitions and drone sports for the general public.
BBSK tentatively estimates the costs of establishing a center for drones and science in Fiľakov at more than two million euros. As part of the plan, project documentation is currently being prepared, it should be ready at the end of this year. The region would like to finance the project itself with the help of European resources.
