The City Council of Ripoll (Girona), has reported this Saturday of the arrest of the imam of the municipality’s mosque, information that it regrets not having been officially made aware of by the Mossos d’Esquadra. In a statement, the City Council assures that “through unofficial channels” it has learned of the arrest of the imam of the Ripoll mosque last Thursday.

A spokesperson for the Mossos d’Esquadra has confirmed that a person was arrested on Thursday for sexual assault on a minor, but that internal protocols regarding information on this type of crime prevent the Catalan police from giving more details about the arrested person.

The statement from the Ripoll City Council highlights its “deep discomfort at not having been informed of this situation through official channels, especially taking into account the seriousness of the events and the social impact they may have.”

The mayor and deputy of Aliança Catalana, Silvia Orriols, in a publication on her “And that this news does not make news, even more so,” adds Orriols in his X account.

The City Council’s statement states that the necessary legal and psychological and social support services have been made available to the affected family.

In the Ripoll mosque, the brain behind the 2017 attacks in Barcelona and Cambrils (Tarragona), which recruited several young people from the municipality to form the terrorist cell responsible for the attacks. Orriols, at the head of the far-right independence party Aliança Catalana, later managed to win the mayor of Ripoll with a speech in which the threat that, in his opinion, Muslim immigration posed to Catalonia was key.
