Billy Steinberg, one of the composers of “Like A Virgin”, dies, says website

The composer Billy Steinbergresponsible for hits such as “Like A Virgin”, by Madonnadied this Monday (16). The information was confirmed by Variety.

According to the magazine, the artist passed away after a long battle with cancer.

He has been among the most successful songwriters of the past 35 years, co-writing five singles that reached No. 1 on Billboard’s “Hot 100” chart, according to information on his website. His main works were, “True Colors”, by , “So Emotional”, by , “Eternal Flame”, by The Bangles, and “Alone”, by Heart.

Billy grew up in California, and attended Bard College in upstate New York. After college, he pursued a career as a singer and songwriter while also working in the family business.

In 1981, Billy partnered with Tom Kelly. They composed together and later formed the band i-TEN. But their careers took off after Madonna recorded “Like A Virgen”, which became the title of her second album. The song reached number one on the Billboard charts in December 1984 and remained there for six weeks.
