Košice in the spotlight: A grand final farewell to the Roma king Róbert Botoš († 54)

In Košice, the funeral of Róbert Botoš, crowned in 2014 as the Roma king, is taking place on Thursday. He died on Sunday (February 15) at the age of 54 after health problems.

The morning was part of the last farewellí funeral procession along Hlavná Street in the direction from the seat of the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic to the Cathedral of St. Alžbety up to Alžbetina Street. The coffin with the deceased was carried by a special funeral carriage pulled by four white horses. Dozens of survivors and participants accompanied him with live music. Subsequently, from 1:00 p.m., a funeral ceremony is scheduled at the Public Cemetery in Košice.

Košice municipality confirmed for TASR that the organizers asked for the funeral carriage to pass through Hlavná Street. City policemen supervised the smooth and safe passage. Botoš was crowned King of the Romans Robert I on April 12, 2014. Before that, the Košice businessman was chosen as the holder of this title by the representatives of the Slovak Roma. He identified his task as mainly unifying the Roma, but also returning the right values ​​to the communities and cooperating with those who help the Roma community. Numerous guests from Slovakia and abroad took part in the ceremony in the House of Art. The golden crown was made especially for this occasion.
