Pruning leaves, branches, and roots is essential during warm periods, when preparing vegetation for autumn.
Summer is often a hostile season for plants, especially those poorly adapted to extreme climates. At the same time, it’s the ideal time to prepare vegetation for autumn, and pruning can be crucial for improving the appearance and health of foliage. Somewhat surprisingly, it promotes vigorous and orderly growth in the vast majority of species.
There are several main reasons to use pruning shears: removing dead, diseased, or crossed branches; improving air circulation by creating space; guiding growth in the desired direction; shaping a rebellious plant; and preventing potential danger. To do this well, you need the right tools.
If the cuts are small, hand-held shears will suffice; for larger cuts, it’s best to use a machine. For trees with branches two centimeters in diameter or more, it’s advisable to use a hacksaw. It’s also helpful to wear protective gloves to avoid injury.
